- Reading: trolling internet forums, ugh.
- Playing: my guitar, per usual
No job. No friends in town. The ones that are have jobs and work constantly. Car is busted and can't make it very far without something falling off. No money (see first grievance), and therefore no ability to do anything. And to top it all off, I bit my lip yesterday and it hurts more today than it did then.
Such has been my life these last few weeks of summer in a college town. An endless cycle of nothing. Wake up, try to convince myself that things will get better, eat some ramen, wash, rinse, go to sleep, and repeat. To quote the Raconteurs, "Haven't seen the sun in weeks, my skin is getting pale. Haven't got a mind left to speak and I'm skinny as a rail."
Some good that has come from this recent funk I've found myself in. Hmmm, let's think.
Hmmm...
Oh yeah, I've become an activist. One thing I've done to blow the hours up hiroshima style has been to troll blogs/forums/journals or those who are/appear to be/probably aren't as informed as I am about current events and topics of a global importance. And after days of reading how the world is going to hell in a handbasket, I too can rant about global warming, the war in Iraq/Darfur/your own state of mind. and so can YOU!!! It's not hard. Here's some simple steps to become an opininated internet blogger:
1) Have nothing to do for a few hours (something of this calibur takes time)
2) Google search some random word that you think might be tied to bloggers
3) Click the first valid link, i.e., wikipedia.
4) Read until you come across something that has been contradicted by something you've previously read.
It's at this point you can apply this little formula I just made up this very second to figure out where this topic is on it's lifecycle.
# of pages viewed * # of different authors / number of errors and contradictions = it's lifecycle constant.
A topic with a small number indicates a topic in it's infancy. These subjects are often the most uninformed, and usually have the highest potential scare factor. "Gang stabbings in London are on the rise?" Apparently, an actor from Harry Potter just died recently in a fight outside a pub in London.
This shows another main theme of internet folk: mention Harry Potter and you're suddenly taken more seriously.
A topic with a large numbe indicates a topic in it's death throws. These subjects tend to be known by most people (at least most people who habitually read forums). While scare factor might me minimal, the opinions held by different people are the strongest and defended most adamently. This makes for the most entertaining forums.
If mother's are mentioned, you know you've hit the jackpot.
Hmmm, what else. Writing this right now is basically me trying to stay sane.
Been writing music more than usual. Not so much lyrics as chord progressions and riffs. So that's a plus.
Man, this journal writing is fun stuff. Plus, it wasted a good chunk of time. I might try this stuff more often.
Until next time...
